Richard Maguire

Richard Maguire (b. Aberdeen, 1991) is an artist living and working in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Maguire's practice considers histories of race and sexuality between Britain and South Asia, predominantly working in drawing with a sensibility informed by assemblage - he sources imagery from archival photographs, ephemera and film. The resulting works gesture towards the entangled and conflicting histories of bodies, economies, and sites of subject-making between lands and their relation, or contextual proximity to the present.

Richard Maguire was the recipient of Creative Scotland's Visual Arts and Crafts Makers Award for Aberdeenshire, Scotland (2023-2024), The Edinburgh Art Festival's Early Career Artist Award (2023), The Founder's Choice Award at The Ingram Prize (2023) and was previously shortlisted for a the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize (2023).

Maguire graduated with a Masters in Printmaking from The Glasgow School of Art (2018), having previously studied at The Royal Drawing School (2015) and at Gray's School of Art (2013). His Solo exhibitions include: Wherein Difference Lies, Post Times, New York, USA (upcoming, September 2025); Amidst Relations, Patron Gallery, Chicago, USA (2024); In The Absence of Pleasure, Village Gallery Leeds, UK (2023); and What Happens to Remain Unsaid, Maximillian William, London, UK (2023).
